Mitchell graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, earning a bachelor’s degree in economics. As an active-duty Army Officer, he was stationed at Fort Bragg as a Paratrooper, deployed to Afghanistan as an Infantry Platoon Leader, and served as a Basic Training Company Commander. Mitchell continues to serve in the US Army Reserves.

Mitchell lives in Clayton and works in the Freeman Financial Raleigh office. He shares his life with his wife, Anna, their son, Nicholas, their daughter, Emma, and their dog, Gracie.
